It’s the biggest update ever for Truecaller on iPhone. Those of you with iPhones have long been jealous of Truecaller’s Caller ID on Android phones, but no more! Thanks to a new iOS update, we are able to make Caller ID finally work on iPhones. That means you will know who is calling when you get a call, in the same way that hundreds of millions with Android phones have.
How we did it
This huge update was made possible with the help of Apple’s new Live Caller ID Lookup framework. It was developed especially for apps like Truecaller to provide Live Caller ID in a way that preserves the privacy features that Apple have developed on iPhones. The new Caller ID uses state-of-the-art encryption and Truecaller is the first in the world to release this at such a large scale.
So, what’s new?
The update allows Truecaller to use the latest AI capabilities and global database to identify as many calls as possible. It makes sure that no call goes unidentified on your iPhone as long as Truecaller has any information about it.
In addition, the latest update includes something that those of you with Truecaller for iPhone have been requesting for a long time: automatic blocking of spam calls. Other improvements include the ability to search for previously identified calls, going as far back as 2,000 previous numbers in the Recents list in the Phone app.
Finally, Truecaller on iPhone now includes the ability to subscribe for a Premium Family plan. With Family Plan, you can share all Truecaller Premium benefits with up to four additional people at a low monthly or annual price.
Privacy First
The new Caller ID uses encryption which preserves your privacy at every step. First, when you get a call, a lookup is made to Truecaller servers, with the phone number encrypted. On the Truecaller server, the lookup is made into an encrypted database without revealing who you are, or who the call is from.
Truecaller then sends back an encrypted response to the phone which is decrypted only on the phone, just before showing the Caller ID. This means that all calling activity is private.
The new Caller ID works so that only legitimate iPhone users can use this service, while your network activity is private too.
How to enable Truecaller on iOS 18.2
- Make sure you are on Truecaller for iPhone version 14.0 or later.
- Open iPhone Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
Here, enable all Truecaller switches and open the Truecaller app again.
A word from Truecaller CEO, Rishit Jhunjhunwala:
“We are excited to bring the full power of Truecaller to iPhone. We see tremendous potential in our iPhone user base and parity with Truecaller’s Android experience has been top of their wishlist. This update does that and more while preserving privacy, which has always been a cornerstone for everything we build..”
All the new features will be made available for those with Truecaller Premium. Those with the free iOS version will continue to enjoy ad-supported number search and caller ID of Verified Businesses.
