Citizens can add their number to the list to technically reduce their number of telemarketing calls and sales pitches, however, as stated on the U.S. Do Not Call website:

Furthermore, non-profit companies can also be exempt from the rules if they are calling about informative messages, surveys or political calls, promoting political campaigns, B2B calls, solicitation for charitable contributions, consumers of their business, etc.

While the Do Not Call registry is helpful to end the battle against spam calls, in the end, it is up to the people to identify what is considered an unwanted call. Many companies can still slip through the cracks of the Do Not Call Registry.
